WordCamp 男木島とは？

こんにちは。私は男木島に住む額賀順子と申します。

男木島は香川県高松市に所属する瀬戸内海に浮かぶ小さな島です。
2018年にはWordPressのコミュニティイベント「WordCamp Ogijima 2018」を開催しました。
2019年は瀬戸内国際芸術祭があり、島内が人で溢れているのでお休みしました。そして2020年。やりますよ！

WordCamp Ogijima の第一回はとても盛況で、とても好評でした。ありがとうございます。このまま1回だけの大成功した WordCamp として伝説になっちゃうのもいいかもな、とチラとでも思わなかったと言えば嘘になります。
だって、2回目って難しいですもん。だいたい大ヒットした映画の２本目はこけてません？前回を上回る面白さを求める観客と、前回を上回らなければという作り手側のプレッシャー。そして1回目は注目されていなかったことによる気楽さが失われて散々な結果になっていたりするのは皆さまもご存知の通りです。

だから2回目をやるというのは恐ろしい。恐ろしいからこそ、やりますよ。
何故なら、私たちが作っているのは、コミュニティだからです。WordPress を通じて繋がって、強い力を発揮することができる。小さな力だって集まったら大きな力になる。私たちはWordCamp というイベントを作りながら、仲間としてコミュニティも作っているのだと私は思っています。それに、いつだって、より楽しいものが作れたら嬉しいですよね。

さてさて、そんなことを言われたって意味がわかんないよ！という方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。でも、もしこの文章の訳のわからなさが引っかかったなら、どうぞ実行委員に来てください。私のこの文章のわからなさを、どうやったら伝えることができるのか一緒に考えて欲しいです。
そして、この文章がわかったあなた。勿論歓迎です。一緒に WordCamp を作りましょう。

そう言いながらも実行委員ってどういうもの？などなど疑問があると思います。また今回私たちは、WordCamp の実行委員に関わることの難しさをできるだけ回避するためにいくつかのアナウンスを先にすることにいたしました。
応募の前に下記を読んでいただけますと幸いです。

実行委員、サポートスタッフ、インターンの募集

今回は実行委員、サポートスタッフ、インターンの募集をします。

実行委員はがっつり WordCamp Ogijima を作るスタッフです。コミットする時間も多いですが、運営のチームに入って色々なことを決めるメンバーになります。また WordCamp は「地域のチームで行うイベント」と定義されていますので、今回は四国＋瀬戸内海に面している地域に居住する人とさせてください。

サポートスタッフは、実行委員よりもコミットする時間が少なくても関わることができるスタッフです。私たちが WordCamp を作るには多くの力が必要です。ぜひお手伝いください。地域は問いません。

インターンは「これから WordCamp を自分の地域でしたいと考えている方」を考えています。この先、例えば再来年自分の地域で WordCamp をやりたいけれど、どうやって作ったらいいのか、どんなルールがあるのか不安に思う方、いらっしゃいましたらぜひ一度一緒にWordCamp を作ってみましょう。こちらは実行委員と同じコミット量になることを考えています。

前回の WordCamp で、実行委員が果たした役割については2018年の実行委員長の西川さんが書いた記事がありますので、よろしければご一読ください。

WordCampを作るのにかかる時間や役割

それぞれの役割で WordCamp に関わるにはどれくらい時間がかかるか、またどんな役割を想定しているかを下記にまとめてみました。

実行委員の役割や実行委員をするために必要な時間

チームの想定人数：15人程度

必要な時間：
初期 週3時間（月15時間）
後半 多い人は週14時間（月56時間）
（かかる時間は所属するチームによって変わります）

想定される役割：
– 日程やコンセプトなどの決定
– オンラインミーティングへの参加

前回のWordCamp 男木島での係（参考）：
– スポンサー係
– 広報係
– 制作係（Web/印刷物）
– セッション係
– 給食係
– リアルキャンプ係
– 映像係
– キッズ係
– 男木島係
– 当日スタッフ管理
– 会計
※前回も実行委員をされた方は、あえて他のチームを担当しませんかと相談する場合があります。また上記のチームは前回のチームで同じものになるとは限りません。

サポートスタッフの役割やサポートスタッフをするために必要な時間

サポートスタッフの想定人数：10人程度

必要な時間：
月3時間から5時間程度

想定される仕事：
– バナーを作る
– チラシ折り込み
– 会場のサイン量産
– プリントアウト作業
– 業者の見積もり
– ご飯係
– 翻訳
– その他、専門性の高い仕事
– 当日のスタッフ

インターンを希望される方の役割やインターンをするために必要な時間

基本的には実行委員とほぼ同じ役割で動いていただくことを想定しています。今までWordCamp の実行委員をしたことがない方で、これからご自身の地域で WordCamp を開催したい方に限ります。

インターンの想定人数：1人から2人
※申込者多数の場合は聞き取りの上、人数を絞らせていただくこともあります。

必要な時間：
初期 週3時間（月15時間）
後半 多い人は週14時間（月56時間）

その他

実行委員になったものの、やってみたら思ったより時間が取れなかった。申し込んだ時と状況が変わった。楽しくなかった。などあるかもしれません。その時は実行委員をやめることができます。またサポートスタッフとして時間を少なくし、役割を限って関わるように変えることもできます。

キックオフミーティングは1月を予定しています。

WordCamp の開催予定日ですが、実行委員が決まってから決めたいと考えていますが、男木島の気候的に7月か10月の可能性が高いです。

WordCamp 男木島に関わる人に知っていてほしい事柄

WordPressイベントには、WordPressイベントに関わるみんなが心地よく安心して過ごせるように行動規範というものがあります。WordCamp 男木島ではイベント時だけではなく、この行動規範に則って実行委員会内も運営をします。とても大事なことなので全文読んでいただきたいのですが、抜粋をします。

WordCamp Ogijimaの運営でも、みんなが楽しく快適に活動できるようにしたいと思っています。もし実行委員会内で上記のような受け入れがたい行為が起こった場合は、きちんと対応します。また、実行委員会内では言えないと思うような場合は、WordPress コミュニティには違反レポートを送る窓口があります。

また、「WordCamp 運営者・スピーカー・スポンサー・ボランティア同意書」という項目があります。これはWordCamp 運営者全員が守る約束です。同意のうえ、下記の応募フォームボタンからお申込みください。もし内容にわからないことがありましたら、気軽に声をかけてください。同意する・わからないところがあるという二つのチェックボックスを作っています。わからないところがある方は、キックオフミーティングの時にお話しさせていただきますので、そのあとで参加するかどうかを決められても大丈夫です。

最後に

Call for WordCamp Ogijima 2020 Organizer, support staff and trainee.

We would like to call for organizers, support staff and trainee to hold WordCamp Ogijima 2020.

What is WordCamp Ogijima?

Hi, I’m Junko Nukaga from Ogijima. 

Ogijima is a small island in the Seto Inland Sea, within Kagawa prefecture in Japan.

We hosted ‘WordCamp Ogijima’ in 2018, then took a year of rest in 2019 as there was a triennale, the Setouchi International Art Festival, on Ogijima, and the island was full of tourists. 

The first WordCamp Ogijima in 2018 was very successful. It would be a lie to say that I didn’t think it would be a legend as a one-time successful WordCamp. Because I know that the second time is always difficult, like the second movie struggling under pressure from an audience’s higher expectations after a successful first movie. So, it’s scary to do the second time, but I’m willing to take the challenge because it’s scary. And because we are creating a community. By connecting through WordPress, we can participate to empower smalls to grow big, and by creating a WordCamp we are making friends and community. Wouldn’t we become happier if we can make something more fun?

In this post, I would like to explain the responsibilities to be an organizer of a WordCamp in order to avoid misunderstandings or difficulties getting involved. Please read through before applying.

Call for organizers, support staff, and trainee

For WordCamp Ogijima 2020, I would like to call for organizers, support staff, and trainees. Below are definitions for each roles. 

Organizers are staff who works hard to create WordCamp Ogijima. They are people who makes various decisions within the operation team and dedicate many hours. A WordCamp is defined as ‘an event created by the people in the region’, so I would like to limit the organizers to be people who live within the Shikoku area and areas facing the Seto Inland Sea.

Support staff are staff that will be involved in running the WordCamp with less commitment than organizers. There are no limits to region. Making a WordCamp needs lots of work and support, so please raise your hand if you are interested.

Trainee are folks who are looking to conduct a WordCamp in their region in the near future. If you want to hold a WordCamp next year but are unsure how to do so, or have questions about the rules, we’d love to make a WordCamp together. The commitment for trainee is assumed to be the same amount as organizers. 

WordCamp Roles and Estimated Hours of Work

Here is an estimate of the work and amount of time expected for each of the WordCamp roles.

※If you participated as an organizer in the previous WordCamp Ogijima, we may ask you to be in a different team than last time. Teams may also change.

Roles and commitment of support staff

Estimated No. of people : around 10 people

Estimated time needed : 3 to 5 hours per month

Roles:
– Creating banners
– Posting
– Creating signs in venue
– Printing
– Estimation with supplier
– Meals
– Translation
– And other professional works
– Volunteers

Roles and commitment of trainee

Roles are expected to be the same as an organizer. However, you may only apply if you are willing to host a WordCamp in your region in the future, and if you have no experience being an organizer in any WordCamps.

※If there are many applicants, we may conduct interviews.

Other

You can stop being an organizer if you wish to do so. You may feel that you couldn’t participate as much as you expected, or if some things came up, or if it didn’t feel right. You may also switch to being support staff. 

Kick off meeting is planned in January 2020. 

The WordCamp is most likely to take place in July or October, due to weather conditions around Ogijima. We will decide the fixed date after organizers are decided.

What you should know to participate in WordCamp Ogijima

WordPress events have a Code of Conduct, to make sure that everyone participating can feel comfortable and safe. It is important to know that the Code of Conduct is applicable during the WordCamp and also while organizing the WordCamp. I have picked up some important parts below:

There is also a violation report center within WordPress community if you feel that you cannot speak up within the organizing team.

There is also a consent form for WordCamp organizers, speakers, sponsors and volunteers. This is a rule everyone running the WordCamp follows. If you have any concerns or questions, I will talk about this at the kick-off meeting so you can decide if you want to take part after the meeting is held.

I have also taken a record of conversation with WordPress friends who also live on Ogijima, Shin and Mariko Nishikawa, and Yamato Fukui. It may be easier to get a feel for the atmosphere by listening to it. (Japanese)
